Perspiration is release of water and toxins in the body through glands. They are usually seen when the temperature of the body rises and when in individual is under stressful conditions. It is sort of excretion as well as defense mechanism of the body. Excretion as perspiration helps release a large amount of toxins and fat from the body as sweat mainly after activities involving physical stress. As for the defense mechanism aspect, it helps maintain the body temperature such as if a person has high fever and takes a medicine for it, the reaction of the body is to perspire and regulate the temperature to normal in the body.

Perspiration is good for the body but excessive perspiration can lead to dehydration and muscle spasms. The main aspect to consider is to maintain a balance for perspiration neither too much nor too less.

Eccrine and apocrine glands

There are glands present in the human body which are responsible for perspiration in the body. There are two types of glands namely eccrine and apocrine. Mostly only ones is said to be sweat glands that is the eccrine glands. Eccrine glands are mostly coiled tubes present in the neck, palm, soles and back area. They secrete sweat to regulate body temperature and excrete excess salts and toxins. Thus, sweat has a salty tangy taste and odor to it.

Apocrine glands are larger in size in comparison but do not play any role in temperature regulation. They are usually in areas such as genitalia, eyelids and breasts. The rate of perspiration is dependent on factors such as temperature of external surroundings and physical activity of an individual in their regular life.

Excessive perspiration and its effects on the body

Perspiration is the release of excess salts and toxins from the body in the form of water as sweat. The body gets heated when exposed to high temperatures and needs to be cooled down before there are adverse reactions to it. The reactions that can be seen if body temperature is not regulated are heat stroke, unconsciousness and can lead to serious harm. Thus, the body reacts in its self-preservation mode and releases sweat from different parts of the body to cool down the high temperature.

When getting into stressed situations

When faced with stressful situations, the glands get active and release sweat in an attempt to calm the body from extreme reactions like dizziness and nausea. Thus, it is a good way to maintain the body temperature and relax the body when needed. But as appropriate for all things excess of anything is bad and holds true even here. If there is an excess of perspiration from the body, the body loses a lot of water which causes alterations in body processes.

Water is an important aspect of the human body and lack of water causes the body to spasm and make vital organs overwork. It means that the muscles is the body start to contract due to lack of water in them as well as the amount of oxygen is affected which leads to the lungs working harder and causing breathing difficulties. If the water content is not replenished immediately, the brain starts to shuts down as the body convulses from lack of oxygen and cells are dried.

Such conditions are called extreme dehydration and needs immediate medical attention and hydration. Dehydration in extreme can cause brain damage and even death if not given proper treatment in time. The most important thing that needs to be done to a dehydrated patient is replenish the lost amount of water and salt by injecting huge amounts of fluids.
