The different kind of dieting
There are different ways to lose weight through dieting. A new trend that is going on right now calls for one to completely avoid food. Anyway, food is the main culprit for weight gain, so swearing of food would completely resolve the issue. But does that really help?
On a regular type of diet where cut down on calories or certain types of food, you can lose as much as 75% of fat and 25% of muscle. When you are fasting, you can lose as much as 85-100% of fat and this is because the body reverts to repair mode during fasting.
The problem with crash dieting and avoiding food altogether is that you lower down your metabolism, so low that your metabolism slows down. In a controlled situation, one can plan starvation to a stretch of a few days. If done right, you will be able to trick your body to starve and feed off the excess fat. However, one should understand that food is not merely an accessory of life – it is a necessity. When one makes a decision to starve himself to proper weight loss the following symptoms may become an issue:
Some people would take a diet pill to suppress their appetite. This does not only starve the body but it deprives the body of what it needs in terms of vitamins and minerals. Understand that there is a difference between slim and being unhealthy – and starvation can lead to that and can cause all kinds of problems.
- Binge eating – Since there is a deprivation of the person’s wants and needs in terms of food, there is a bigger risk of indulging into a binge fest. With starvation cravings increase and when food is finally allowed, bingeing could be expected.
- Weight gain – When you do not eat you will initially lose some weight, but the long term result of all the fasting will be the slowing down of your metabolism, which will result in weight gain.
- Malnourishment – Not eating controls caloric intake, but it also limits the nourishment that the body receives. The body is supposed to receive a certain amount of vitamins and nutrients in a day and a person is not eating anything, the body is significantly deprived.
- Weakness and frequent headaches – Food is fuel to the body and when the body is not provided enough fuel, it will become weak and will display generalized listlessness and proneness to disease.
Eating, especially when it is not done right can result in weight gain. A good way to reverse the effects of food is to avoid it. One can effectively lose weight when food is limited but it never has a lasting effect. It is unhealthy and it is not something that can be done in a long term basis, so it is only good for crash diet which can actually bring more harm than good.
